6/16/07.  One of the biggest reasons I started collecting movie paper was that I knew one day I would have a home theater, and that I would have lightboxes in them like those I saw in the home theater magazines I read.  As soon as I bought my second house, I built two lightboxes in the family room which I had converted to a media room.  I first built a prototype of the lightbox I designed, because I could not find one reasonably priced that suited my needs.  When it was done, I hung it and pulled out one of my favorite posters for display - The Nightmare Before Christmas.   It was so good-looking that I sat and stared at it for about an hour.  I wish I had taken a picture of the prototype setup then.

After that time, it took me about two months of weekend work to build the two final lightboxes that you see pictured in this section.  They are constructed of oak with lexan rear panels and acrylic front panels all designed to filter UV radiation and best preserve the images on the paper.  The biggest design flaw was that the boxes I constructed are only 3" deep, which unfortunately allows a shadow from the tubes to be cast onto the image.  The next round of lightboxes in the third house I am now renovating will be 4" deep to allow a greater distance in which to diffuse the light.  The home theater that is now being built will have two onesheet lightboxes, a quad lightbox, and a bus shelter lightbox that will accommodate bus shelter sizes from the US, France and the UK, all of which vary by up to 5".  I will also be adding a Japanese B1 size lightbox in my home office to handle the growing number of double-sided B1's in my collection.

For those of you who actually display your collection, I salute you.  It's not easy to do it the right way, but the rewards in doing so are great.  While this website is designed first and foremost to allow me easy access to the images in my collection, there is absolutely no substitute - for this collector at least - in handling the posters and displaying them as originally intended in a movie theater setting.  I hope you enjoy these images which, quite frankly, do not do justice to the in-person experience.

4/6/08.  I've completed construction of all the media room lightboxes.  Go here for the pictures I took while constructing the bus shelter lightbox.

Austin Powers

4/1/07. I purchased this and displayed it a long time ago (about a year). It's doublesided, and it's really sharp in the lightbox. I was very pleased to find this older pic from when I displayed it at the time.

Batman Begins

4/1/07. An older purchase, and a good one! This is the much more rare international version. It displays very well, and when lit it shows off sepia tones which are not evident when looking at the poster without a backlight.

Godzilla 2000

4/1/07. I've found some old pics of posters I've had for some time and which I had previously displayed. This and the following three are among them. Great looking poster in the light box.

Hocus Pocus

4/1/07. Another one that I've had for a long time. Disney makes great posters -- they're on thick paper and the colors are usually vibrant. This pic does not do justice to how well this poster displays in the lightbox. It really pops. My kids love this movie.

THX

4/4/07. As many of my friends know, I love collecting advertising posters, and I have a whole section dedicated to that passion. Here's a pic of one displayed.

Underworld

4/2/07. It took me awhile to find a real, doublesided original of this poster, but it paid off. It displays really well.

XMEN The Last Stand

4/2/07. Another old picture from when I first purchased and displayed this one.

Batman Forever

1/24/07. I bought this poster recently after someone else I know displayed a pic in the Movie Poster Forum. I've been collecting the Batman posters for some time, and I really like the colors in this one. After I hung it in the lightbox, and along with the purchase of a new Canon 10.1 megapixel digital SLR, I am finally in a position to shoot the poster lit in the box. I'll be adding to this section as time goes on. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. L

Goodfellas

1/24/07. This one was hung side by side with Batman Forever for a time. R.

The Oscars 2007

1/26/07. I just received this today in the DS format for display. I love the Oscars and with them a month away, this poster replaced Batman Forever and is now hanging next to Goodfellas for a time. L

Charlotte's Web

1/31/07. This is here only because I'm a completist freak. I took these a LONG time ago with an inexpensive digital on which I could NOT turn off the flash. Thus, the whole lightbox effect is all but lost. I did want to preserve this image for posterity, because I know years from now I will be happy I did. R/DS.

Take the Lead

1/31/07. Actually, this was taken at the same time many months ago as Charlotte's Web. This one did not get as much of the flash, so it looks better. I bought this poster solely because I knew it would display well. I was not disappointed, though it does not show well here. R/DS.

The Departed

3/4/07: This one replaced The Fountain after it arrived several weeks ago. It was displayed alongside the 2007 Oscars. Of course, I was pleased with myself that I had this poster displayed at that time, for obvoius reasons. R

Titanic

3/4/07: This is a second international version that I bought recently from Dan R. along with the Fast and the Furious poster. I just replaced the Oscars and the Departed with these two. L

The Fast and the Furious

3/4/07: This is now hanging next to my new copy of Titanic. Titanic is one of my daughter's top 5 movies (if not #1), while Tokyo Drift is my son's favorite movie. It was purely coincidental that I received both of these posters in the mail from the same purchase. It is NOT coincidence that I put them both up while my kids were with me this weekend! R

Star Trek: Nemesis

3/10/07: Today is my daugher's birthday. She's coming to love the posters as much as I am. This year, she asked that I put up the posters that she wanted. Unfortunately, one of her first choices, Lady in the Water, was in my office in storage in the flat file there. I had only one box of posters here at home, and this is one that she picked, because of the colors. It's the same reason I like this poster, too. It's one of my earliest acquisitions. L.

Titanic

3/10/07. This is the International Style B. You'll note that this was moved from the left to the right box. This is the other poster my daugher ended up wanting hung for her birthday. At first, she wanted another, but ended up choosing this with Nemesis. So, they were switched at her request. R.

Minority Report

3/12/07: I considered this a great poster before I displayed it, and now that I've seen it illuminated, I'm even more convinced. The colors are subtle, and the image convincing that the movie bears a great secret. This poster replaced Nemesis, and will likely be up through the coming weekend when I replace it with another. L.

Run Lola Run

3/12/07: I recently purchased this doublesided from the great Dan R, along with a repro single sided version. I've waited a long time to obtain a DS version for this poster. It lights up surprisingly well, and this picture does not do it justice. This replaced the Titanic Int'l B that my daughter likes. R.

Lord of War

3/17/07: This was easily the shortest display ever. I like the poster, but we're in the process of selling our home to purchase a larger home. I put this up thinking it would be nice, but then I saw the copy of Aladdin that I purchased recently, and I had to change it out. Aladdin looks much better for purposes of selling the house and having people see the home. This poster is way cool, though. L.

Aladdin

3/17/07: This is a version that I had not seen before when I purchased it. The lamp really glows well in the lightbox. I'm dismayed that the lights show through more than usual here. It's a problem with some of the darker posters. This replaced Lord of War and is now next to Girl with the Pearl Earring. They don't go too well together, but oh well. L.

Girl with a Pearl Earring

3/17/07: I knew this poster would display well, and I wasn't disappointed. When lit, you see that the image looks like an old, age-crazed oil painting. It's really nice on display. It's next to Aladdin right now, and I'll probably swap Alladin out for another that goes better with this one. Maybe Evita. R.

The Little Mermaid

3/21/07. Well, Aladdin just did not work out. It's a nice poster, but even double sided, it washes out in the lightbox and looks like drab crapola. I was sorting some of my new stuff for storage, and I came across this one. It's much brighter, and it looks much better. It remains for the moment next to Girl with a Pearl Earring. L

Aladdin

4/1/07. Actually, I put this one up last week in place of Girl with a Pearl Earring. I purchased it from Kymar and the color's really pop. It sat for about a week next to The Little Mermaid. The two colorful Disney posters were nice side by side for a time. R.

Lilo & Stitch

4/1/07. I purchase this lenticular recently from Dan R as part of a set of lenticulars. I would not have purchased is separately, but I'm glad it happened my way! It displays well, and it's next to Aladdin right now. It replaced The Little Mermaid. I'm no a Disney run! L.

Grindhouse & Kill Bill Vol.1

4/5/07. I'm trying something new here by shooting both boxes on. I'm not the best photographer, so I need to work on the exposure setting. Neither poster displays so brightly, and then again, neither poster is as dim as the individual pictures which follow.

Grindhouse

4/5/07. It would seem the market is sucking these things up, and for good reason -- no Tarrantino paper has dropped in value to my knowledge. This one is only going to go up. But, that's not why this is here. I love both directors' work and I can't wait to see these flicks this Sunday! L

Kill Bill Vol.1

4/5/07. This is the uber-rare Australian onesheet for Kill Bill Vol.1. It is double sided, so I was thrilled to finally have this particular image to display in my lightbox. This image, to my knowledge, was used on the bus shelter paper and on the quad. No US paper matches it. R.

Matrix Reloaded & Children of Men

4/22/07. They are discussed next.

Matrix Reloaded

4/22/07. The Twins advance variant with machine guns. It displays pretty well. I do prefer more colorful posters, but I also enjoy displaying really rare posters like this one. What good are they if they cannot be handled (carefully). L.

Children of Men

4/22/07. This is my favorite of the paper for this move, so far. I would like to acquire the Japanese paper, but all in time. Meanwhile, I put this up today in place of the Aussie Kill Bill. It was time for a change. I would have put it up with it's mate, but I wanted to see what the Twins looked like. R.

Almost Famous & Crouching Tiger HIdden Dragon

4/25/07. I have to say that the Twins and Children of Men were pretty boring in the lightbox. I'm sure there would have been a better way to display them, but I'm too tired to think of it. Now, I've added some color.

Almost Famous

4/25/07. A great poster that I've wanted for some time. I love the glasses. L.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

4/25/07. Surprisingly not an easy poster to locate in the doublesided version for the lightbox. It displays well with Almost Famous. R.

Ghost Rider

5/14/07: I've actually had this up for about 10 days now. I just took it down to replace it and the World is Not Enough with two new Austin Posters posters I picked up. Before taking them down, I shot these pics. I light box is really the only way to properly see the lenticulards. L.

The World is Not Enough

5/14/07: I knew when I bought this that it would look really good illuminated, and I was not disappointed. The paper on this poster is heavy and glossy such that it blacks out all of the light except that coming through the profile of the woman in flames. It looked awesome next to Ghost Rider. R.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

5/20/07. These have been up for about a week now. I picked them up from Bruce, and they look very nice together. They're very colorful and upbeat. L.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

5/2/07. The other side. R.

Austin Powers Set

5/2/07. When I took these pics, without the tripod I might add, my kids were over. You can see some of the baby accoutrements and my eldest son who was helping me take some pictures. He took both of the Casino Royale pics which follow, and he wants a job as my photographer.

Casino Royale

5/20/07. This is one of those times when I am, once again, going to bitch about the fact that this picture does nothing to show you how good this set looks. The color of their dresses really pops against the grey background. One day, I'll learn how to take better pics. L.

Casino Royale

5/20/07. Solange. R.

Deep Blue

6/16/07. I was finally able to take the time and change out the posters. I recently picked this one up from Phil & Mila over at Cinemarts. It's Australian (of course) and I just knew it would display as well as it actually does. The colors are rich, and they look very good alongside of Basquiat. L.

Basquiat

6/16/07. When I received Deep Blue, I was looking for a poster that would display well next to it. This was a really good choice, becuase the red and blue colors contrast well and are of roughly equal intensity. As shown in the side by side pic, they look really well together. R.

Dep Blue & Basquiat

6/16/07. One of the best pairings side by side of two unrelated posters.

Day Watch

7/24/07. I knew that this poster would look good illuminated, and I was not disappointed. I put it up next to Resident Evil Extinction. After, I watched Night Watch, and it was good enough to have me ready to see Day Watch. L.

Resident Evil: Extinction

7/24/07. I can't wait to see it. I'm a real sucker for these movies with the badass chick and all. The poster's cool too. R.

Day watch & Resident Evil Extinction

7/24/07. I had these up together for about two weeks. I just replaced them yesterday.

Across the Universe

7/24/07. I just knew this would be a great poster. I've already fallen for the movie just based on the trailer and the poster. If it ends up sucking, I'll scream. L.

Beauty and the Beast

7/24/07. My first instinct was to put up the new poster for 30 Days of Night next to Across the Universe, because of the bright reds. But, I realized that love and gore really don't go side by side, so I opted for this less extreme showing. It worked out well. R.

Across the Universe & Beauty and the Beast

7/24/07. These are up right now.

Escape Clause & Black Xmas

1/14/08. It has been a long time since I've updated this area of my website. We moved into a new house and all the sturm and drang of the move, I have not been able to photograph new posters in the lightboxes, or to change them out for that matter. For the holidays, however, I did change them, and here's what was displayed through the 2008 holiday season.

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause

1/15/08. L

Black Xmas

1/15/08. R.

Sweeney Todd & Hitman

1/15/08. These were up together until just a few days ago, when I added the Speed Racer lenticular. Both of these are international versions.

Sweeney Todd

1/15/08. This is the international version. It displays really well - the blacks aren't washed out, and the red parts really pop. L.

Hitman

1/15/08. Another international version, and a fine one at that ... the poster, I mean. R.

Speed Racer

1/15/07. I just put this lenticular up two days ago. I couldn't photograph it so that I could capture it, but the 3D effect is great. This lenticular is almost 1/8" thick (or more actually). It's depth of field is spectacular. L

The Fifth Element

1/27/08. Can you believe that I finally completed building the quad lightbox! This is the first one I put in there. It is just spectacular. Now, I'll have the bus shelter lightbox done in a week or so, realizing a dream of many years.

Day Watch

1/27/08. I had The Fifth Element up for about a week, and then I wanted to sit down and watch Day Watch, so I swapped one for the other. All I can say is WOW!

Aqua Teen Hunger Force

1/27/08. When I changed out the quad lightbox, I wanted to change the onesheets, too. I ended up with the style G for Moulin Rouge and the advance for Any Given Sunday (to commemorate the Superbowl). Before I got there, I put this one up first, but took it down immediately. While it's a fun poster withh the "blah blah blah" in the credits, it just didn't look that good in the lightbox.

Kill Bill

2/1/08. I underestimated how nice this poster would look when lit up. I wanted to have a Kill Bill poser in each lightbox, but I was only able to put my hands on this quad and the bus shelter.

Kill Bill

2/1/08. This huge bus shelter is amazing! This was the second bus shelter that I displayed in the new box. To my knowledge, this art is only on this size poster.

Oscars 2008

2/7/08. Before the bus shelter came in for the Oscars, I had this onesheet displayed next to the onesheet for Atonement, pictured below. It's a cool poster, but let me tell you, it pales in coparison to the massive and brillant bus shelter.

Oscars 2008

2/15/08. Just in time for the Oscars, I put this up in the bus shelter lightbox. So far, this is the third bus shelter I've displayed, and they all look great. The searchlights in the image really pop.

Amelie

2/15/08. For the AA's, I wanted to put a nominted poster in each lightox. But, I did not have a quad, so I put Amelie up instead. It just seemed to go along with the spirit of things. It's looks surprisingly good.

Atonement

2/15/07. I put this up for the AA's. I wish I had the international in time. It looks better than this US style. L.

there Will Be blood

2/15/08. This is a particularly good looking poster when displayed. The colors are muted yet strong. It has great depth. R.

Memoirs of a Geisha

3/10/08: It's becoming something of a tradition that when a birthday is up, the special person gets to select the posters that will be displayed. Now that we're up to four lightboxes (quad, bus shelter and two onesheets), it makes for an interesting game! This time, it was my daugher who got to chose. For the bus shelter, she chose this one. It is astounding in person.

Requiem for a Dream

3/10/08. She chose this wonderful quad for Requiem.

Titanic

3/10/08. Of course, she selected the onesheet for her favorite movie.

King Tut

3/10/08. Lastly, she selected this advertising onesheet for the King Tut exhibit, which is the favorite poster in my entire collection.

3/10/08: Here's a shot of them together.

3/10/08. Another shot.

3/10/08. The onesheets.

3/10/08: A different perspective.

Mallrats

4/25/08. Titanic got swapped out for Mallrats. This is a really great display poster.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

4/25/08. This one went best, I think, with Mallrats.

Mallrats & Fear

4/25/08: Here they are together.

THX

4/26/08. This is probably the best THX poster done so far. I put this one up along with Iron Man for my son's first birthday. L.

Iron Man

4/26/08. This looks really good lit up. The eyes and chest really glow. R.

THX & Iron Man

Side by side

THX & Iron Man

Side by side

Stargate

4/26/08. This quad displays well even though it is single sided. It's blue-coated on the back which helps. This is my favorite artwork for Stargate, which I previously had only on the German poster.

Stargate & THX

Stargate & THX

My Blueberry Nights

5/24/08. This poster is one of those that makes me really thankful to have the lightbox to display it in. It looks great. L.

Wanted

5/24/08. Ubercool. R.
