Lord of the Rings FOTR |
|
Style A, and much more scarce than the Style B with Frodo looking down. This was one of my first "serious" purchases. The set has all the authentication hallmarks, including the glowing ring. R/DS. |

4/22/07. A friend pointed out that this, actually, is the more scarce version, with about 500 printed. |

6/12/07. Australia. As told to me, "Almost the entire run of these posters (numbering 5000) was issued to a single chain of video/music stores in Australia only to be used as a promotion for the DVD/video release of The Two Towers, which closely coincided with the theatrical release of The Return of the King. They were intended to cross-promote the upcoming ROTK theatrical and the TT home video release and were used for in-store display. Not intended for international use, maybe New Zealand but not likely." R/SS. |

3/24/07. This version can be purchased any time from New Line Cinema's website, and for that reason, I've never added a copy to the collection. This version is a printer's proof, however, and is much more rare. I purchased it from Dan R who I believe had a special fondness for printer's proofs given the number of them he's sold recently. The proof is very uncommon, so I've felt justified in adding it.

1/15/07. Arwen, French Bus Shelter 47 1/8" x 68 3/4" R/DS.
2/9/07. I received the tube a few days ago. It was 5 feet long! Just today, what with work and all, I was able to open the tube. I cannot tell you how spectacular these posters are. As soon as I pulled them out and unrolled them, I knew that I was going to go ahead and build a lightbox for them (yes, it bears repeating, they are unfolded and double sided). They are simply overwhelming in person. I guess the only thing that could come close are the US bus shelter posters. But these are so much sweeter because they're French! I'm very pleased.

1/15/07. Frodo, French Bus Shelter 47 3/16" x 68 7/8" R/DS.
2/10/07: The width dimension on each of them differs slightly. On some, it appears the printer did not trim them precisely to the picture, so there is a white strip almost like it was a printers proof. Others are cut perfectly. That's why I decided to write down the exact dimensions, in the event that I build a French grande sized lightbox. |
